CHIP covers uninsured kids and teens up to age 19 in Pennsylvania. CHIP is lower cost health insurance that is based on income, and covers all kids. Please click link above for more information.

Information and application assistance for Medical Assistance (Please see below for a guide for students with a disability)

Pennsylvania Medical Assistance (Medicaid) is for those with low income (lower than CHIP) and those with certain disabilities.

In Pennsylvania, you can now apply for, or renew your benefits from home online:

  • COMPASS' website will take you step by step through the application process.
    It can be used to apply for Medical Assistance as well as:
  • Cash Assistance
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP-food stamps)
  • Child Care Works
  • Long-Term Living Services
  • SelectPlan for Women
  • Health Care Coverage
  • Free School Meals
  • Home Heating Assistance

Some students with disabilities are eligible to receive Medical Assistance and/or Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

If your child has a physical, developmental, or emotional need, you can visit the website.
