Keep those hands clean

With health officials warning about the risks of this winter's flu season, all Quakertown Elementary School students have been given a lesson on the importance of hand washing.

The class lessons, presented in conjunction with the Bucks County Department of Health, were led by QE nurse Mrs. Molyneaux. Students learned the importance of handwashing, the appropriate way to wash hands, and had an opportunity to see germs on their hands using a special machine.

"We know that hand washing is by far the best way to keep our students from getting sick and prevent the spread of germs," said Dr. Michael Zackon, principal at QE. "Mrs. Molyneaux has been working hard to teach our students and parents about health promotion and risk reduction behaviors."

Students were taught the difference between good germs, for foods like yogurt, and bad germs, which can make people sick. Washing your hands helps to avoid the spread of germs and the infections they can bring.
