Inclement Weather/Flexible Instructional Days

Quakertown Community School District is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to use Flexible Instructional Days (FID) for the 2024-2025 school year. This means that, in cases of inclement weather or other scenarios requiring schools to be closed, QCSD may move to an asynchronous or synchronous mode of instruction for the day. Flexible Instructional Days can be used by a district up to five times a school year. If Internet access is unavailable due to inclement weather or electrical power is not available to any part of the school district, Quakertown will not use an FID.

Upon the designation of a Flexible Instructional Day, teachers will ensure that asynchronous or synchronous instructional lessons are provided. Materials will be provided in Seesaw (K-5) and Canvas (6-12).

Student Responsibilities on Flexible Instructional Days

  •  If a synchronous day is called, students are expected to attend the Google Meet posted by their teacher(s).

  • All work will be posted in SeeSaw or Canvas and will need to be completed as outlined by the teacher.

  • Attendance: QCSD utilizes K-12 SWIPE at QCHS allowing students to check in remotely with their student number to ensure their attendance is marked correctly. For K-8 students, attendance will be determined based on the completion of assigned work.

    • If a QCHS student does not sign into the K12 SWIPE system, they will be marked absent, and regular absentee rules will apply. If a student is marked present, but does not complete the work, regular school assignment rules/grading practices would apply.

  • If there is an attendance concern or issue, the student should contact the teacher via email.

  • Students who did not participate during the FID should be reported as having either excused or unexcused absences accordingly.

  • Participation and completion of activities are tracked through the gradebook, separately from attendance.  Students must submit assignments as outlined by the teacher in either SeeSaw or Canvas in order to receive grades for that work. If work cannot be submitted electronically, it is expected to be turned in upon return to school.

  • If a student has communication issues with the teacher, she/he and/or parent may contact the building-level principal or their secretary to confirm attendance.
