Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Arrival Procedures
Doors open at 8:50am. Classes begin at 9:05am.
Doors Open for Breakfast: 8:50 AM (no early arrival for breakfast)
Do not drop off students prior to 8:50 AM. No adult supervision is available until 8:50 AM.
Student Arrival
Our QCSD Student School Day officially starts at 9:05 AM and ends at 3:50 PM.
Students may begin to proceed into the building at 8:50 AM.
Students should be dropped off or arrive as close to 8:50 AM as possible. Please note that there will not be supervision outside prior to 8:50 AM.
If students are arriving by bus, a staff member will be present to greet them off the bus and support a safe transition to their homeroom.
For students that need to eat breakfast, we will serve a grab-and-go style breakfast. Breakfast will be served when doors open at 8:50 AM. Students will enter the building and proceed directly to our cafeteria, grab their breakfast, and head directly to their classroom.
For inclement weather, please help your child dress accordingly.
Walkers (Arrival)*
In the morning, walkers should enter the school’s front main entrance.
There is no adult supervision for students outside prior to 8:50 AM, and having students arrive early is not safe. Please work with your child to plan their departure time from home so they arrive between 8:50 and 9:05 AM. *Note: A student can ONLY be a walker if designated as such by Levy Bus.
Car Riders (Arrival)
Cars enter the campus at the intersection of Glenwood Ave. and N. Penrose Street. PLEASE DRIVE SLOWLY. Cars travel past the main entrance of the school, go around the flagpole loop, and circle back to the main entrance.
You must alert us to Car Rider changes every school year.
Our front doors open at 8:50. If you arrive prior to that time, your child must stay in the car with you until the door opens. Once our doors open, members of the Neidig teaching team are always present to assist students.
Students must be in their classroom by 9:05. Please drop off your child by 9:00 AM so they are not missing the important morning routine in their classroom.
Students exit and enter the car by themselves on the RIGHT side of the vehicle. Cars are passing on the left, so it is important students do not use the left side of the car.
Adults please do NOT get out of your vehicle.
Always pull as far forward as possible to allow more cars to unload and load at the same time. It is essential that cars pull forward as far as possible to help this process run efficiently. Please follow the adults directions as they wave you on to pull forward.
Please do not speed in our parking lot. There are many students and adults in this area, so please drive cautiously and slowly.
The bell rings at 9:05 AM, and students should be in their classrooms when the bell rings. Classroom routines lead to a successful school day. If you arrive after 9:05, and have not submitted your student’s late arrival in Safe Arrival, you will need to park your vehicle, and walk with the student to the main entrance to fill out a tardy slip.
Above all, be safe. This is an elementary school, and student behaviors can be unpredictable. Stay alert, drive slowly, and exercise patience. We appreciate your attention to these procedures.
Bus Riders (Arrival)
Buses arrive out back, at the Erie Ave. entrance. This entrance is only for buses and our pre-school programs. After exiting the bus, students enter the building at this location, walk up the ramp to the main hallway of the school, and walk to their classroom. Adults are always present to help direct students to their classroom.
Dismissal Procedures
The dismissal process begins at 3:50 PM. All Neidig students leave the building as a walker, a car rider, or as a bus rider. If a student is not a bus rider, an adult must be at Neidig at this time to pick up their student(s).
Daily Changes to the Dismissal Plan
Any changes to your child’s daily dismissal plan (for example, from a bus rider to a car rider) must be communicated to the office before 2:00 PM to allow our team to plan and prepare for this change.
For dismissal changes, contact lsmith@qcsd.org or 215-529-2360. Callbacks cannot be guaranteed to confirm daily dismissal changes. If you would like confirmation, please send your request via email.
For permanent changes, please email lsmith@qcsd.org.
Walkers (Dismissal)
A student can only be dismissed as a walker if designated by Levy Bus Company as a walker. Walkers are dismissed from the exterior door by the kindergarten and first grade classrooms, near the creek and bridge. You will see a ramp access to the building. (If you are a returning family, this is the same location as previous years.) If students are walkers, they walk all the way home. Walkers do not get in a car on Penrose St. or Forest Ave. If students are getting in a car, they are car riders, and must follow car rider procedures. This rule will be clearly explained to the students so they understand the rules and expectations.
Car Riders (Dismissal)
Just like in the morning, car rider pick-up occurs in the front of the building. Cars enter the campus at the Glenwood Ave and N. Penrose Street entrance. Drivers drive slowly past the main entrance, around the flagpole loop, and back to the main entrance area.
Please display your Neidig Duck sign* with the child’s name written on it so we can safely and efficiently deliver your child to your car. You must stay in your car. Students will come out of the school at the main entrance, and walk to your car to meet you. Please follow the directions of the adults out front. You will be directed to pull all the way forward.
PLEASE stay in your car and follow the directions of the Neidig adults.
*One Plastic Duck sign will be distributed to new students only. Please retain this sign throughout your student’s enrollment at Neidig Elementary. No plastic signs will be replaced. If lost, you may request a paper copy from the main office, or place a paper with your child’s name in your window.
If you want your student assigned as a Car Rider for dismissal permanently during the ‘24-’25 school year, you must complete this form. This form is only for afternoon dismissal at Neidig. You may drop your student off in the morning without notifying us. Completing this form does not remove bus access for your student.
If you do not plan to use the bus at all (morning or afternoon for the entirety of the school year) and wish to opt out of all bus transportation, please contact brenninger@qcsd.org.
Bus Riders (Dismissal)
Bus riders will leave their classroom and walk to the bus dismissal area near the gym. Adults will assist students with this process. Busing is provided by Levy Bus Company.
Request for Transport to Adult Supervision (After School Care)
If you need to request a Bus Pass, you will need to contact brenninger@qcsd.org or lsmith@qcsd.org.
Kindergarten Release Forms are available. An adult is required to meet all Kindergarten students at the bus stop. If an adult other than Parent/Guardian will be receiving your student, or if they will be allowed to exit the bus with siblings, you must complete this form and submit it to brenninger@qcsd.org.
