With teachers organizing the effort, Trumbauersville families headed to the library to get library cards and books.

Though school is out and summer in on, student literacy remains a focus of Trumbauersville Elementary School teachers, who greeted students at the Quakertown branch of the Bucks County Free Library on Tuesday.
The event was the brainchild of teachers Peggy Smith and Beth Fox, who encouraged families to have young people sign up for library cards and keep reading.
“We’re always thinking of ways to engage students in summer reading,” Mrs. Smith said. “This is a way to think outside the box. Kids can get their own library card, check out books, and the library has so many summer offerings. For those who couldn’t come, the library is open all summer. It’s a great resource for our students.”
Dozens of students and parents did come and enjoyed the spacious library. Students played together, created puppet shows, and checked out a lot of books.
“A special thank you to the children’s librarian, Emily Knorr, who wholeheartedly supported our efforts to keep our students engaged in reading and learning during the summer months,” Mrs. Smith said.
“Well done, Trumbauersville!,” Principal Adam Schmucker stated in an email. “Thank you for this connection to our community!”
Parents appreciated the efforts of Trumbauersville’s teachers.
“It’s great that even during the summer months the school is staying involved in student literacy, and giving them activities outside the house,” said Frank McKelvey, who brought his son Cole to the event.
Samantha Ritter and her daughter Gabriella enjoyed the experience. “It’s a nice opportunity to get them together in a good atmosphere and encourage.”
