The grade 6 reading, English, language arts (RELA) curriculum is based upon a foundation of research that recommends that students have experiences in reading, writing, speaking, listening and researching. To achieve this goal, the RELA curriculum will embed the following practices:
Ø A reading approach that uses quality literature as core pieces and encourages self-selection in order to achieve and reinforce reading independence;
Ø A writing process approach that provides writing experiences through a variety of genres and for a variety of purposes;
Ø Speaking, listening and research skill development incorporated in the program that supports all content areas.
