The IDEA provides for more than special education services. Some students require additional, related services so that the special education will be successful.
The district contracts with the Bucks County Intermediate Unit to provide related services in all district buildings, wherever need is documented by a student’s IEP:
The district also emphasizes transition to work activities, utilizing job trainers and job coaches.
The district’s Transition Coordinator is Mrs. Susan Scherffel. Mrs. Scherffel can be contacted at Quakertown Senior High School at (215) 529-2085 or by e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org.
In addition to the Bucks County Intermediate Unit, the district partners with other community agencies that serve the needs of all students, including students with disabilities on a non-discriminatory basis:
Bucks County Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence offers Student Assistance Program (SAP) evaluations and services concerning drug and alcohol abuse.
The Penn Foundation (PF) provides SAP evaluations and services involving mental health issues. The PF also provides “wrap-around” MH services to district students with severe behavioral issues.
Lakeside Education Services partners with the district, St. Luke’s Hospital, and the YMCA to operate the Parenting Center.
Renewal Centers partners with the district to operate the Alternative to Suspension (ATS) program.
The Peace Center provides extensive peer mediation training to district students and staff.
